So in Granite Cave I caught a Mawile, who is now Fairy/Steel, and depended on her to get through multiple gyms and the Elite Four. In a few rare instances, the dev (or devs?) put in Pokemon that weren't originally available in those routes. Because I'm a traditionalist who hates recent Pokemon generations, I have little experience with Fairy-type - but in Hoenn, it is newly invaluable. Perhaps the biggest addition is Fairy-type. Pokemon heal from poison just before fainting.

This is huge! You can run indoors, everywhere. When your repel runs out, the game asks you if you want to use another one - like in Black and White 2. There are many quality-of-life improvements. Moves that didn't exist in Gen III are also implemented when my Combusken learned Flame Charge, I got hype as hell. The special/physical distinction from Gen IV onwards is implemented here, instead of the weird type-specific earlier form. As such, while the game has essentially the same difficulty as the original, it can be dealt with in very different ways. Overall, I thought it was a terrific experience, and brought me a lot of joy from a game I'm sure marked all of us significantly when we were younger.ĭelta Emerald is updated to the Gen VII pokedex and battle rules. I figured as a total newcomer to ROMs it might be interesting to tell my perspective. I thought it sounded very appealing - an update to Emerald with all the new stuff from ORAS, which I never played, but still in the context of the Gen III experience. So, because it's quarantine, I decided to download a ROM hack I saw on this subreddit - Pokemon Delta Emerald.
